Non-Alcoholic Pop-Up Bar Coming To Downtown For Dry January

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) - A pop-up bar is opening in downtown Pittsburgh that will serve craft beer, sangria, cocktails and more but there won’t be any alcohol available.
The Open Road Bar is hosting a “Dry January” event January 15-31 at 309 Smithfield Street, the same site as Creative Coffee & Supply.
The Happy Hour Pop-Up will operate Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 4 to 7 p.m. Admission is free.
Mel Babitz, the founder of The Open Road Bar says she wanted to give people more options with their drinks.
Dry January has gained momentum and popularity over the last few years with adults who are looking to take a break from drinking.
Babitz says the idea is a longtime coming.
She says the idea to open a dry bar ultimately comes from personal experiences and those around her life.
Babitz says she might got out to a bar and get one drink that she would nurse all night or switch to tonic water and lime but wanted to give those that don’t drink as much more options.
While the drinks are all non-alcoholic, Babitz says that patrons will still be able to enjoy the taste of craft beer and cocktails.
Babitz has been sampling non-alcoholic drinks from all around to find the best tasting ones.
In additions to the Happy Hour events, there will be a special party on January 17 from 7 to 11 p.m. in collaboration with another pop-up Empath Sober Bar & Social Events.
Admission to the event is $5 at the door.
Babitz says her ultimate goal is to eventually have, "a brick and mortar bottle shop and bar that will serve a wide range of beverages, focusing on those with no- and low-alcohol content."
