Homicide charges have been filed after a 15-year-old was fatally shot in Ambridge on Sunday.
With family members of Asaun Moreland holding back tears, Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier announced homicide charges against 18-year-old Nasean Hunt.
Lozier says that Hunt, along with another suspect who has yet to be identified and is still at-large, stalked Moreland around Ambridge and shot him “execution-style” on the 1100 block of Church Street around 6:40 p.m.
Hunt and the other suspect fled, but were followed by several witnesses who helped direct police toward an apartment building on the 600 block of Olive Lane.
After a two-hour standoff, Hunt was taken into custody.
While no motive has been given, it is believed that Hunt and Moreland were “acquaintances”.
Beaver County District Attorney David Lozier says they still don’t know if Moreland’s murder is connected to the killing of 15-year-old Dahvea Sparrow at a house part in Aliquippa on Saturday. He adds they are currently treating the cases as separate.
No arrests have been made in the Aliquippa shooting. A $10,000 reward is being offered for information that will lead to the arrest of the person who killed Sparrow.
Hunt is currently in the Beaver County Jail.
In addition to criminal homicide, Hunt is charged with criminal conspiracy, carrying firearms without a license, evading arrest, tampering with evidence and false identification to an officer.
Ambridge Police Chief DeLuca thanked the public and the witnesses who risked their lives to locate Hunt and the other shooter.
DeLuca adds that the juvenile crime problem is getting worse in Ambridge and other local communities.
