Spiking gas prices are hitting people where it hurts… in the wallet.
As drivers pulled into area gas stations Friday, the headlines became a reality. Gas prices are surging in the area. AAA's Lynda Lambert says at some Pennsylvania gas stations, people will pay over $4 a gallon.
"The state average hit $4 overnight. It's up 14-cents from yesterday. In Pittsburgh, the average is $3.95 [a gallon] and that is up 13-cents over yesterday."
Warmer weather means a higher demand for gas. The crisis in Ukraine is driving prices up too.
AAA offered some tips in order to limit the amount of time people spend at the pumps.
· Slow down and drive the speed limit.
· Reduce trips and lighten your load.
· Avoid "jackrabbit" starts and hard acceleration.
· Avoid extended idling to warm up the engine.
· Look ahead.
· Use cruise control to help maintain a constant speed and save fuel.
