AHN expert says Allergies are becoming more common

Allegheny Health Network
KDKA Radio

As we head into allergy season, local physicians are noticing a trend: Allergies are becoming more common.

Dr. Christine Rauscher, an allergist-immunologist with Allegheny Health Network, tells the NewsRadio KDKA morning show that climate change is partly to blame.

"The seasons are lasting longer, so our plants are actually producing more, and more pollen, as a stress survival signal. Allergies are becoming, in general, more common in all of the conditions I treat. So, environmental allergies, asthma, eczema are becoming more common."

Dr.
Rauscher recommends taking your allergy medications two to three weeks before your itching and sneezing normally starts.

She also reminds us that COVID, especially the Omicron variant, can mimic similar symptoms.
