PITTSBURGH (Newsradio 1020 KDKA) — The Allegheny Health Network announced on Saturday that it's taking further measures to keep fighting against the spread of COVID-19 as cases surge both locally, statewide, and nationally.
And these new restrictions on patient visitation will go into effect at all associated facilities in the AHN on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The following wards/areas will be exceptions:
1. Labor and Delivery
2. Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU)
3. PediatricsEnd of Life Care
4. Patients who have an intellectual, developmental or cognitive disability, communication barrier, or behavioral concerns or those with a physical disability
5. Patients being discharged from hospitals to help communicate their discharge instructions
If you intend on visiting any of the listed areas, you must bring a valid ID and be at least 18 years old.
Screening will be performed before an entry is allowed to test visitors for any COVID symptoms.
Additionally, one visitor will be allowed at a time for patients undergoing surgery or emergency care.
All others will be asked to wait in their car or at a designated socially distanced area and will be contacted by an AHN employee as need be.
Also, some visitations will be allowed if the patient requires special assistance for receiving the appropriate care.
"As cases across western Pennsylvania reach an all-time high, our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our patients and caregivers," said Brian Parker, MD, AHN Chief Quality and Learning Officer. "We recognize that implementing visitation restrictions can be difficult for patients and their loved ones, but it's critical that we do everything we can to help protect frontline caregivers and flatten the curve of this public health crisis in the communities we serve."
