Yet another phone scam to be aware of. This one out of Westmoreland County.
The Westmoreland County Sheriff's office say this latest scam involves a phone call from someone claiming to be a deputy, who even uses the actually name of a real officer who works at that office.
And to make the call seem even more believable, the caller has an ID that displays the number to the main office.
The caller proceeds to tell the person on the receiving end of the call that there's a warrant out for their arrest for failing to testify in a court case that they've been subpoenaed for.
The caller then goes on to say that the only way to avoid being booked, fingerprinted and having their mugshot taken is to provide their banking information and make a payment.
The sheriff's office reminds the public that if you receive such call, hang up immediately and call their office directly to verify, and that they'll never ask for payment over the phone.
