UPDATE: Body of 9-year-old boy found in New Kensington

UPDATE 5/9/22 3:28 P.M. - The Westmoreland County District Attorney has issued a statement regarding the investigation behind the homicide Azuree Charles.

“Please be advised that the Commonwealth did not release a video to any media outlet in regard to the investigation of the homicide of Azuree Charles. Furthermore, the individual in the video in question has been identified and is not a person of interest at this time. Dissemination of this video was never requested by this office nor will it assist the investigation.”

UPDATE 5/5/22 5:22 P.M. - Officials updated media in Westmorland County and revelealed the name of the young boy is Azuree Charles.

The DA also confirmed that they have a person of interest.

UPDATE 5/5/22 4:19 P.M. - The District Attorney of Westmoreland County issued an update on the 9-year-old boy found in New Kensington.

Alongside officers from Arnold, Lower Burrell, Allegheny Township, Murrysville, the Attorney General's office and State Police, they canvased the area of Haser Drive in New Kensington.

Police is asking for the public and members of the community to do anything they can to help officials, such as surveillance camera footage and other information that could help the investigation.

PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) A homicide investigation has opened after a 9-year-old boy was found dead in New Kensington.

The boy’s name will not be released at this time.

His body was found behind a unit on Haser Street in the New Kensington Manor neighborhood.

Interviews are being conducted with neighbors and family members, details remain limited at this time.

The neighbors stated that the boy had recently beaten a form of pediatric cancer.
