Councilman calls for zero tolerance after shots fired on South Side

A Pittsburgh City Councilman is calling for zero tolerance after shots were fired on the South Side Sunday night.

Councilman Bob Charland tells Marty Griffin he was in the neighborhood when a fight broke out at Capo's bar and restaurant on East Carson Street., and then shots rang out.

“There’s some kids that are literally trying to get arrested,” said Charland. “They’re trying to antagonize the officers with their social media. They run up to them and it’s like a game of chicken, ‘how far can I push it until you do arrest me’.”

Several arrests were made, pepper sprayed was deployed and an officer was treated by medics at the scene.

Charland emphasizes that it's just a handful of establishments that are causing the problems on the South Side, and he's asking District Attorney Stephen Zappala’s office to step in.
