The Pit in Aliquippa is about to get a facelift.
According to Aliquippa superintendent Dr. Phillip Woods, Carl A. Aschman Stadium is going to receive a $25,000 donation from the Wilson Group for refurbishment.
On January 19, the check will be presented to the school.
The Wilson Group, is known for its preservation efforts, especially in dealing with legacy properties.
"Hiring local, operating local and donating local is The Wilson Group's ethos. We work and live here. It is
our responsibility to maintain the infrastructure of lifestyle here.
This stadium is as organic as it gets,"
said Derrick Wilson, Founder and CEO of The Wilson Group."
On top of the donation, the Wilson Group is going to contribute an additional $2,000 per year, over the next five years to help the growth and sustainability of The Pit.
"The Aliquippa School District would like to Thank Mr. Wilson and the Wilson Group for its thoughtful and generous donation to our construction fund.
We are excited to incorporate the funds into our construction project to provide the best game experience for our student athletes and fans," said Dr.
Woods.
Aliquippa was in the news recently when it comes to the competitive level of its football. The 4A state champions once again are in the conversation of playing up another class and moving to 5A. The Quips were previously in 3A, winning a state title there as well.
U.S. Representative Conor Lamb even wrote a letter to the PIAA, supporting Aliquippa's appeal to not move to 5A for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years.
Every year, #PA17's Aliquippa football plays & wins against much bigger schools, but now they're being forced to move up to 5A. Enough is enough. I sent a letter to the PIAA urging them to reconsider. #LetsGoQuips https://t.co/LBWJOWZMfo pic.twitter.com/W0JP8sOru1
