KDKA Radio Editorial: Chalk Up A Win For The Little Guy

Way to go Michael Wertz!

When he learned City Council was considering a measure to ban horse-drawn carriages in Pittsburgh, he contacted one of the co-authors to express his opposition.

He also got in touch with the Big K Morning Show to explain how out of touch and unfair the legislation would be to his business and customers.

Wertz said the measure was offered under the incorrect assumption his horses are abused. Mike's Carriage Services has three horses that work on average one day a week for about four hours during the summer months, the rest of the time they live at his Washington County farm with dozens of other horses.

Wertz was prepared to speak before council Wednesday, but it wasn't necessary.

Council member Bruce Krause called the night before to say he was tabling the bill, a development Wertz's diverse customer base will appreciate.

Chalk up a win for the little guy!
