The Pittsburgh Popcorn Company's processing facility on the South Side has been ordered closed by the Allegheny County Health Department following a reinspection of the facility.
A Consumer Alert was initially issued after and inspection on December 4 at the company’s Josephine Street facility.
The facility was ordered closed after continued evidence of a rodent issue.
Inspectors found seven large bags of seasoned cheddar cheese found chewed on by rodents with a few bags containing rodent droppings.
Other “high-risk” violations included a live mouse found behind a walk-in cooler, a dead mouse found on a glue board in the tin room.
Additional rodent droppings remain in two areas of the facility with some small holes also remaining under a sink.
The food processing company was ordered to close after reinspection on Friday, December 13 and as of December 16, remains active.
Any updates and the reinspection report can be seen on the ACHD’s website.
And, a Pittsburgh grocery store has been ordered to close after a re-inspection last week.
The Allegheny County Health Department first issued a consumer alert for Kohli's Indian Imports in Oakland on December 3.
The initial inspection uncovered multiple high-risk violations including chewed bags of food, rodent droppings and food held at incorrect temperatures.
When inspectors returned, the violations were not addressed, resulting in the closure.
