
A Pittsburgh snack shop popular for weddings, corporate, school and other events has been hit with a Consumer Alert.
The Allegheny County Health Department says The Pittsburgh Popcorn Company on Josephine Street on the South Side, was hit with 13 total violations, including five considered “high-risk” after an inspection on December 4.
“High-risk” violations observed include “numerous” food times “gnawed by rodents.
The items include cheese seasoning, chocolate morsels, tins used to store popcorn, peanut butter inside a walk-in cooler. And “single-use articles”.
A pack of chewing tobacco was found on a table near bagged food and an employee was seen eating popcorn while packing a product.
Old food build-up and grease was found inside popcorn machines and an employee was found washing and rinsing items without sanitizing.
