The cost of a fishing license may be going up in Pennsylvania for the first time in 17 years.
The Fish and Boat Commission is considering an increase of $2.50 for the annual license to $23.50. That includes a $2.50 increase for the trout permit.
Fish and Boat Commission communications director Mike Parker says there hasn't been an increase in 2005, though the cost of their operations has gotten more expensive.
"We're just looking to catch things up and do it at a level that we feel is acceptable to folks. $2.50 on top of your fishing license right now, for most folks, is very acceptable."
The public comment period is open through August 15th - then the proposal heads to state legislators for review.
