Friends are mourning the loss of the woman who was behind the old Electric Banana in Oakland.
Tributes are pouring into her Facebook page, as friends and fans remember Judy Zarra, known by many as Judy Banana, recalling their times at her club that was the place to see punk bands in the 1980s and 90s.
Zarra died Tuesday after a battle with cancer at the age of 78.
One fan remembers that Zarra was able to book well known national bands like Suicidal Tendencies or Agnostic Front and pair them up with unknown local bands.
Zarra and her husband would later go in a different direction, trading in blaring bass guitars for Italian cuisine turning the Banana into Zarra's restaurant, which had its own fans from near and far.
One said on Facebook it's their favorite place to eat when they come to Pittsburgh.
