It was recently revealed that Walmart moved past Giant Eagle as the Pittsburgh area's top grocer.

The Pittsburgh-based company wants customers to return and is reducing prices on hundreds of products through the summer to help get shoppers back.

800 items will be "price locked" beginning May 4 through August 9 at all Giant Eagle and Market District stores.

Some items at GetGo locations will also see a "price lock" on certain items.

The prices of these items will be reduced by 20 percent and will hold through at least August 9.

Those items will include national brands as well as meat, seafood, dairy, prepared meals, as well as Giant Eagle brand health and wellness products.

Those "price lock" items will be found in the return of Giant Eagle's printed circular this week.

The chain went digital in the Cleveland market in January and in Western Pennsylvania in March.

But customers complained, so it's back to the printed circular.

"We are putting the customer at the center of everything we do," said Giant Eagle, Inc. Interim CEO Bill Artman. "Right now, our customers are seeking to manage their grocery expenses and telling us they need more ways to save at Giant Eagle to maintain access to the items that are most important to their households. Our teams worked extremely hard in recent weeks to respond to this by delivering meaningful reductions on hundreds of items with a focus on those that are most popular during the spring and summer months. Starting this week, customers will benefit from the result of millions of dollars' worth of investment into items across our Giant Eagle, Market District and GetGo stores."
