The Transportation Safety Administration has been concerned with an increase in firearms stopped at airport security checkpoints over the past year or so, but two items stopped at Pittsburgh International this week are also raising eyebrows.
A grenade and a smoke grenade were both stopped by security on Wednesday.
TSA Spokesperson Lisa Farbstein says the grenade that was stopped was inert, but no type of grenade, live or inert is allowed on a plane.
The smoke grenade was found in a traveler’s carry-on bag.
“Had it been triggered, thick yellow smoke would have been everywhere,” said Farbstein. “Yellow is just not a good look. And besides, you know that there's no smoking on a plane!”
