Pittsburgh’s most famous ice balls are back for 2026.
Gus & Yiayia’s will be up and running this weekend, with the Pirates hosting the Tampa Rays at PNC Park.
Mike Spanos, with Gus & Yiayia’s, tells KDKA Radio they’ll be open Thursday through Monday beginning at 11 or 11:30 a.m. through 6 p.m. (weather permitting).
And, with the largest event in Pittsburgh’s history next week in the NFL Draft, Spanos says their plans are will be a “game-time decision with how much things are changing around the North Side.”
Spanos says they do plan to be ready and if they do open, “we’ll keep rolling just like any other day and do what we do best.”
“Gus always showed up with more than enough, and we’re bringing that same energy—doing everything we can to keep that tradition going strong,” said Spanos.
In addition to its famous, flavored ice balls, Gus & Yiayia’s sells popcorn, peanuts and other treats.
Gus & Yiayia’s started in 1934 by Gus’ mother and father with Gus taking over the business in 1951.
Gus Kalaris died in June 2024 and his daughter Christiana is now in charge.
