Vice President Harris and her running mate launched a pre-convention bus tour in Pittsburgh on Sunday. News Radio KDKA's Timira Rush has the story:
Hundreds of supporters filled a private hangar at Pittsburgh International Airport on Sunday morning awaiting the arrival of Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, and their spouses.
The four shook hands and took selfies but did not any deliver remarks.
Harris brought baked good to firefighters and made a stop at the new Sheetz in Coraopolis near the intersection with Route 51.
She also stopped in Aliquippa to meet with the defending PIAA Class 4A high school football champions, Aliquippa Quips. Steelers Hall of Famer Jerome Bettis was also on hand. He has thrown his support behind the Harris campaign.
Ross Tetter of Wilkinsburg tells me this moment means so much.
“The fact that a black woman, whose ancestors were enslaved, in this hemisphere, like, we got here on boats that were not by choice, the fact that she’s this close to the highest position, in this hemisphere, I think that’s monumental,” said Tetter.
Tetter says Harris needs to address her prosecutorial record in California.
One of the invited supporter Katie Cook of South Fayette tells me this moment is monumental for her daughters.
“It’s an incredible honor to bring my daughters to see this historic moment and really looking forward to the message that the Harris/Walz campaign can bring to me and to my daughters and to really look forward to the future,” said Cook
The tour marks Harris' eighth visit to Pennsylvania this year and her second this month.
Harris plans to attend the opening of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago on Monday, when President Joe Biden is set to speak. She has another rally scheduled for Tuesday in Milwaukee, and plans to give her convention speech in Chicago on Thursday.
