A familiar face on your TV is taking a leave of absence for a medical procedure.

Heather Abraham talks with Larry Richert about her upcoming procedure

KDKA-TV’s Heather Abraham, host of Pittsburgh Today Live and Talk Pittsburgh says she’ll be off the air for six weeks following a hysterectomy.

Abraham says she is having the surgery in early January.

She tells KDKA Radio she is having the procedure done to improve the quality of her life and “help with my health.”

While she didn’t go into detail she did say it is “not because of cancer.”

Heather knows with her being away for six weeks, her viewers and fans would want to know where she was.

That’s part of the reason she decided to go public with it.

The other reasons, she considers views of PTL and Talk Pittsburgh family.

“While I have pre-surgery jitters, like most would, I am comforted knowing I’m in wonderful hands and found a lot of camaraderie from other women who have also had a hysterectomy.  I’ve been amazed by the amount of people who have directly reached out sharing their stories of why they had it done, passing along things they wish they knew, and tips for a successful recovery,” said Heather. “Which leads to back to my why I posted! I find that we’re all better when we can find commonalities in our shared experiences.”

While she is away, she knows her co-hosts, David Highfield, Kelly, Mikey, Boaz and the rest of the team will do a great job.

Heather has been with KDKA-TV for 14 years and we wish her the best in her surgery and following recovery.
