On Wednesday night, KDKA Radio honored Larry’s Hometown Heroes, recognizing the quiet but significant accomplishments of people making a difference. They are:
Melinda Colaizzi, who heads up Women Who Rock, hosting benefit concerts featuring all-female lineups. The proceeds support women’s health research.
Vernard Alexander, who founded the Minority Networking Exchange for entrepreneurs, is also involved in mentorship, networking and non-profit fundraisers.
DeWayne Brown, a leading trainer dedicated to helping young athletes. His work led to founding the 2Tenths Foundation to help youth succeed in both athletics and the classroom.
Lynn Banaszak, who turned her grief over the loss of a teenage niece into a foundation providing scholarships. She’s also a leader in technology and healthcare innovation.
Jon Kolb, the former Steelers player who started a non-profit providing no-cost physical training and wellness support for veterans, first responders and others facing hardships.
You only heard a small part of what each of these Hometown Heroes have accomplished. We congratulate them for their sacrifice, compassion and leadership.
