Hardware stores were the place to be ahead of this week’s winter storm.

Andy Amrhein with Evey’s True Value in Bethel park typically keeps salt, shovels and other winter equipment well-stocked, but this weekend was a different story.

“Normally, my inventory would be for four, or five, storms, and it was gobbled up in one storm,” Amrhein said.

He told KDKA Radio’s Shelby Cassesse that he sold 2,000 shovels, 5,000 bags of salt and 400 sleds, adding it was essentially the perfect storm for sales.

"One, it was a bigger storm. Two, it was the first real snow storm of the season, and three, the forecasters predicted the storm well in advance," he said.

After it was said and done, Amrhein said the only thing they ran out of was sleds and snow blowers, but they’re expecting to get another shipment within the next day.

Crews throughout the area had their work cut out for them with several inches of snow falling Sunday evening into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh, its office in Moon Township saw 9.1 inches of snow.

Numbers mirrored what the latest forecast showed. The Pittsburgh metro area saw numbers near six and seven inches. Butler County experienced near, double-digit snow totals.
