The man that was electrocuted in North Park on Tuesday evening was a teacher at Central Catholic High School.
The school announced that 20-year physical education teacher Mr. Robert “Bob” Anderson, was killed while he was riding his bike and it went over live wires.
Central Catholic President Matthew J. Stoessel released a statement on Tuesday that said, in part:
Throughout his time at our school, Mr. Anderson played an important role in educating students on the need for personal health and wellness. Mr. Anderson was dedicated to the students entrusted to his care and the mission of Central Catholic. Everyone who knew him mourns his passing, as he was an integral member of our school’s community.
I am certain that the Central Catholic community will join me in prayer as we collectively extend our deepest condolences to Mr. Anderson’s family and friends.
School counselors are available for students and staff that may need help.
Allegheny County Police say Anderson, who lived in Wexford, came into contact with downed power lines around 8:30 p.m. and was electrocuted.
First responders could not reach the body until 10:30 p.m. because the wires were still live.
Utility crews were called to cut the power in the area of the trail near Pearce Mill Road.
The downed wires were first reported after 8:30 in the morning Tuesday and Duquesne Light was contacted before 9 a.m.
Caution tape was reportedly set up around the area near the downed wires alerting people to the danger.
