The Pittsburgh area has a new temple.
It's in Cranberry, opening later this month, the first in the region for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
LDS Mission President Scott Hoffman told KDKA Radio's Michael Bartley temples are important in the Mormon faith.
“All the work that we do, with regards to teaching and preaching the doctrine of Christ, we point people toward the temple, where sacred ordinances are performed,” said Hoffman.
There's an open house at the temple from Friday August 16 through Saturday August 31, excluding Sundays.
The new Latter-Day Saints temple is located in the 2000 block of Powell Road south of Freedom Road.
Prior to the Cranberry temple's construction, Mormons had to travel to Washington D.C. for the closest temple.
Construction is also underway for a Latter-Day Saints temple in Cleveland.
