Pittsburgh Police have learned that a request for a police presence at the Destiny of Faith Church, where six people were shot outside of a funeral last Friday, was not fulfilled.

In a release, officials say after the shooting, the bureau began investigating if police protection was provided during the funeral for 20-year-old John Hornezes, who was among the three shot dead near a Sunoco on the North Side last month.
Police believe Hornezes was one of the shooters as well.
Pittsburgh Police command staff says the talked to people on duty and learned that a police presence was requested but not fulfilled.
“We regret that PBP did not provide the presence asked of us on a difficult day. As a matter of policy, we are conducting an internal investigation into what went wrong in this situation. As not only police officers, but members of this community, we consider this totally unacceptable. As previously stated in other briefings, it is our hope that the inactions of a few do not reflect negatively on the actions of many who worked diligently to respond, investigate and bring those responsible to justice in the aftermath of this tragedy, ” said Acting Chief of Police Thomas Stangrecki.
The bureau says “disciplinary action will be issued as warranted and handed internally.”
No other information will be provided from Pittsburgh Police at this time.
