A GoFundMe authorized by the United Steel Workers Local 1557, raising money for the family of the workers that died and were injured after an explosion Monday at the Clairton Coke Works is up and running.

Zack Mainhart, a worker at Clairton and member and co-hair of the local 1557’s NextGen committee tells KDKA Radio says starting a GoFundMe was the first thing they thought of to try and raise money to support the families.

The money raised will be disturbed evenly to the affected families.

The goal is currently $30,000 but Mainhart hopes they will exceed that.

“The unwavering support from the community and our members coming together . . . it’s very humbling and it remind me that, you know we can come together whenever people need help,” said Mainhart.

Two people were killed and 10 others were injured after an explosion inside the Clairton Coke Works Monday just before 10 a.m.

One of the victims has been identified as 39-year-old Timothy Quinn, a father of three.

The other victim has not been publicly identified.

Five of the 10 victims hospitalized have been released and the five still hospitalized were last listed in critical but stable condition.

Even if you don’t have the available funds to donate, Mainhart asks you to share the link to get the campaign out to more people.
