Pennsylvania is requiring AI disclosures in advertisements under a new law signed by Governor Josh Shapiro.
The law takes effect in 60 days and covers AI-generated images, video, audio and text in ads shown in Pennsylvania. Sponsor Senator Nick Pisciottano says it’s designed to protect consumers from misleading ads and scams.
In a social media post, The Governor says the new law is an important step, but more safeguards are needed. He pointed to concerns about AI’s impact on jobs, child safety and elections.
The Attorney General’s Office will enforce the law, with penalties for companies that violate it. Political ads are exempt. Meanwhile, Allegheny County Council unanimously approved a separate measure requiring county candidates to disclose AI-generated or altered campaign ads starting in January.
