
A Pennsylvania National Guard soldier from New Castle died over the weekend in a training accident.

The National Guard says 20-year-old specialist Mackenzie Shay died in a crash involving two military vehicles. Three others were treated at Hershey Medical Center and have since been released.
Shay was an Army Petroleum Supply Specialist and had been serving in the 28th infantry Division’s Company G, 128th Brigade Support Battalion since 2019.
The accident reportedly took place during a routine supply mission between ranges in Fort Indiantown Gap’s remote training area.
Major General Mark Schindler of the Pennsylvania National Guard released the folloeign statement on the incident, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Specialist Mackenzie Shay’s family, friends and colleagues after this tragic accident. Our priority right now is taking care of the family and soldiers, ensuring they have all the resources they need during this critical time.”
The crash remains under investigation. This is the first death at the base since an accident in 2003.
