A new Smart Boot program is being implemented in the City of Pittsburgh.
Drivers who see their car has been booted can now scan a QR Code, pay their bill and the boot will then come off.
Parking Authority Executive Director David Onorato says it's designed so drivers don't have to wait anywhere from 30 to 50 minutes to have crews come and remove the boot.
“Some people, we heard, once they realized their vehicle had a boot on it, they had to wait too long to have it removed, so now they have the option of doing it immediately or calling the boot-release truck and they’ll take it off.
Booted drivers have 24 hours to return the boot at one of three drop off boxes.
One at McGann and Chester Towing, another at the Friendship-Cedarville Parking lot in Bloomfield and the other outside the Parking Authority's office on the Boulevard of the Allies.
