Part of a building that houses a well-known restaurant in Lawrenceville collapsed early Thursday morning.

Pittsburgh Police say the facade of the building in the 4300 block of Butler St. fell onto the sidewalk and street below. No one was injured.

Butler St. is expected to be closed between 42nd and 44th St. for most of Thursday while crews clean up and take a closer look at the building.

The building is home to popular local restaurant Industry Public House, a UPMC primary care office and Phoenix Chinese Spa.

George Sestric, one of the building's owners, said it has been temporarily condemned.

"We have to get some of the loose brick removed because some of it is still buckling, and there's some danger there" he said. "Then, we have to clean the brick up, and the next step would be to have the building inspector come out and determine whether or not he's going to remove the condemned sign off the building."

He said finding a building inspector could be difficult on Veterans Day, which could delay the process. No one is allowed inside the building in the meantime.

Owners at impacted businesses have not said if they expect to close and for how long.

Sestric said it's unclear why the facade collapsed.

"It's an old building," he said. "We've had the two sides completely repointed. For example, the 43rd St. side and the back of the building, the brick work has been completely reinforced there, but the front of the building was always sound. Nothing really needed to be done, so this was kind of unexpected."

Police say there are no utility outages, but Duquesne Light was on scene to tend to some hanging wires.
