PennDOT has revealed construction plans and previewed the 2024 Construction in the Pittsburgh Region Thursday.
PennDOT's District 11 officials highlighted more than 58 projects expected to be bid this year in the greater Pittsburgh region, reflecting an estimated investment of $519 million.
Jason Zang, District 11 Executive updates Route 28 from Harmarville to Russelton which will be the last of many impactful projects for at least a couple years.
"We do have some more work, closer to the city, just more of a minor repaving-type project, but I think everybody's very pleased with Route 28 so we're very happy to accomplish a goal that has been a generational goal, many people have contributed to this that are long-since retired," said Zang.
Work is expected to conclude by the end of September 2024.
Another major project is the bridge preservation project on the Boulevard of the Allies.
"Short-term lane closures, night and weekend closures," said Zang. "There will be some closures of the ramps on and off the Birmingham Bridge. That project was supposed to go until 2026 but our contractor really want to get out of there sooner and there is a chance we could be done by the end of the year, early next year."
