Pittsburgh Public Schools to receive last of computers ordered for remote learning

Seven months after they were first ordered, the Pittsburgh Public Schools are set to receive the last of about 23,000 computers and laptops this week for remote learning.

A district spokeswoman says the city schools have received 5,800 devices since late October. The final 200 arriving this week.

Nearly 17,000 devices were distributed to students and teachers who needed them by early October. The remaining will go to families who have been using home computers for remote learning.

Shipments here and everywhere were delayed by the rush to remote learning.

That delay also delayed the start of school for Pittsburgh Public in September.

An audit by city controller Michael lamb shows the city schools have spent $10.7 million on computers and so far have been reimbursed to the tune of $1.7 million.
