A Pittsburgh-area doctor has been indicted on charges of health care fraud and violating federal narcotics laws.
According to U.S. Attorney Stephen Kaufman, 78-year-old John Keun Sang Lee of Venetia, PA was named in the 242-count indictment.
Dr. Lee is the owner of Jefferson Pain and Rehabilitation Center on Clairton Boulevard in Pittsburgh. The indictment alleges that between May 2016 and October 2020, he knowingly distributed controlled substances to five patients on a number of occasions that were not for legitimate medical purposes.
In addition, Lee is accused of scheming to defraud Medicare and Medicaid by submitting claims for procedures that were not reasonable or medically necessary.
If convicted, Lee could face up to 20 years in prison, a fine of $1 million or both.
