The City of Pittsburgh's Department of Finance says it's three months behind in processing checks, including tax payments.
In a statement, finance director Doug Anderson apologized for the delay and said a parks tax is partly to blame.
"Due to several factors, including double the volume of checks to process because of a separate bill/payment (this will not be the case for 2022) for the parks tax, we are over 3 months behind in processing payments," Anderson said.
The Finance Department says it shifted personnel and started working with a local bank on lockbox banking to help reduce the backlog.
Taxpayers who mailed their payments postmarked by the due date will not be charged a late fee.
The City is asking taxpayers to not mail a duplicate check.
