If you feel like fuel prices have gone up overnight… they have.
Gas prices around the Pittsburgh region skyrocketed on Tuesday, with many stations seeing a jump of up to 30 cents.
Several gas stations around Pittsburgh were posting prices of $4.39 a gallon on Wednesday morning.
According to AAA to the national average has risen to $4.23 a gallon, the highest since the war with Iran started.
On Monday, AAA reported the average price in Pittsburgh was $4.17 and Jim Garrity says “the Pittsburgh average today is $4.35, yesterday it was $4.27, so even since yesterday it’s up seven cents and then, a week ago, it was $4.13.”
Garrity says the spike in prices is mainly to blame on the price of crude oil which has been on the rise and trading around $105 on Wednesday morning.
“Oil is the main ingredient in gasoline, it’s 50 to 60 percent of what you spend when you fill up, when it goes up by a couple dollars, you feel that at the pump, when it goes up by 30 or 40 dollars, you really feel that at the pump,” said Garrity.
Five days ago, crude was trading in the $90 range and with a steady increase, that price is being reflected at the pump.
Garrity also adds it takes a few days for gas prices to reflect the price of crude oil, so expect to continue paying more at the pump over the next several days or weeks.
Some are now paying close to $4.40 a gallon
