Gas prices have once again jumped with AAA reporting that average price is $4.55 in Allegheny County.
That’s up 21 cents compared to last week. That year, gas prices were just over $3.30.
The cause for the jump in prices comes from the ongoing conflict in Iran.
There was a strike on a ship in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, an Iranian commercial ship.
Also, the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels attacked a Saudi oil pipeline, critical to oil flow in the region. The Associated Press reports that pipeline will likely be offline for weeks.
Crude oil prices are currently trading over $100 in the $103 range.
AAA’s Jim Garrity tells KDKA Radio that the price of crude is the biggest indicator for gas prices.
Diesel is also up nearly $3 a gallon compared to last year, now over $6.34.
That means, it’s not only expensive to full up your tank, the cost of food and other items will likely continue to climb.
In addition to the issues in the Middle East, President Donald Trump on Sunday called for Ukraine to stop strikes on Russian oil refineries.
Gas prices have been well over $4 a gallon since the war with Iran started and relief is not expected in at least the next couple months.
