With temperatures expecting to hit 90 degrees, many people are looking for ways to cool down. To help, six cooling centers will be open again throughout the City of Pittsburgh today.
The centers in Beechview, Brighton Heights, Greenfield, Homewood, Sheraden and South Side will remain open through 7:00 tonight.
With the high temperatures, there has also been a shortage of lifeguards within the city. However, a lot of progress has been made.
While the City of Pittsburgh is struggling to find lifeguards, the county met its goal so all pools and spray parks can open on Saturday. County Executive Rich Fitzgerald says they've hired 200 works, 40 more than what is needed to open the pools. He says they pay between 16-to-18 dollars and hour and begin recruiting early.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health requires at least one lifeguard per 4,000 sq. ft. surface area of water and one more for each additional 1,000 sq. ft.
