A civil lawsuit filed by Highland Park resident AJ Ross alleges that she took her dog, Kobe, into a PetSmart in East Liberty nearly two years ago for a nail trim.

10 minutes later, the dog was dead.

Ross is suing PetSmart and the two employees in connection with the incident, Julie Miller and Elizabeth Doty.

The lawsuit alleges the PetSmart employees used restraints on her dog that led to his strangulation death.

Ross’s lawsuit also alleges that PetSmart has shown a pattern of abuse, citing 47 incidents reported to Consumer Affairs regarding alleged injury and death caused by PetSmart groomers.

Miller and Doty are both awaiting a criminal trial on animal cruelty charges related to the dog's death.
