It appears that Allegheny County Council will not override County Executive Rich Fitzgerald's veto of the council's paid sick leave bill earlier this month.

But there are some council members who are hoping to get a firm promise from him at their meeting on Tuesday that the issue can be approached through the county Health Department.

Fitzgerald was asked by Mangino on News Radio KDKA what kind of a commitment is he willing to make to that process?

"Legally, the way this thing has to work, by the Supreme Court, it has to originate in the Health Department", he says, "and my commitment was to ask the Health Department to take this up, they have made that commitment that they're going to do that".

Fitzgerald also talked about a timetable for when a paid sick leave bill could be properly approved.

"I think we're, you know, a few months away", he says. "Probably by summer or fall, to be able to get something in front of council that they can vote on and approve".

Also on the table at County Council's meeting: holding the county's police force more accountable and getting council members off of virtual feeds and back into the chambers.
