KDKA Radio Editorial: Tech School Losses A Bad Development
The closures of two technical schools is a bad development at a time interest in the trades is increasing.
More high school graduates are deciding not to go into debt for an expensive college degree.
First Triangle Tech announced it is closing all six campuses including Pittsburgh and Greensburg by 2025.
Last week, Pittsburgh Technical College said it will shut down at the end of the spring quarter.
Our economy needs people trained in carpentry, welding, HVAC and especially plumbing.
Thankfully, the Community College of Allegheny County is offering a teach-out program for students at Pittsburgh Tech for 19 academic programs. And unions are training apprentices for good paying jobs.
At a time when more people are wondering if a college education is worth it, the Pittsburgh area needs more technical schools, not fewer.
