Wednesday is a Code Red air quality action day with smoke from Canadian wildfires making its way back to the region.
It’s a mix of haze and smoke that many can smell while outside.
Young children, the elderly and people with breathing issues should avoid going outside, everyone else should reduce time outdoors.
AccuWeather meteorologist Dean DeVore explained why on the Big K Morning show.
I don’t think temperatures get much above the upper 70s, that the kind of catch-22, it’s comfortable but its not great to breathe and exert yourself, that hazy smoking hazy situation continues tonight and really into tomorrow it looks like, temperatures warm up in the low to mid 80s,” said DeVore.
Dr. Kip Jenifer, Medical Director at Allegheny Health Network Hempfield Neighborhood Hospital and AHN Harmar Neighborhood Hospital explained who should avoid the outdoors.
“Stay hydrated, stay indoors, if you have significant allergies, asthma, COPD, lung conditions like that, you may want to avoid long exposure outside,” said Jenifer.
Most importantly don’t over exert yourself.
The entire state of Pennsylvania is under the Code Red alert.
