Another familiar name is throwing his hat into the ring for mayor. This hat belongs to a Republican.
Last week, Pittsburgh Republicans said they will have more than one candidate running for mayor of Pittsburgh.
Tony Moreno is one of them and he will officially kick off his campaign for mayor Friday at a news conference in Brighton Heights.
Moreno, a former Pittsburgh Police Officer, will make crime and public safety a key part of his campaign.
He wants to attract more officers to the police department and will call for a competitive benefits structure as well as implementing community-based strategies to reduce crime.
He will also talk about the housing issue and economic growth.
Moreno challenged Ed Gainey in 2021 in both the Democratic primary...and ran as a Republican in the fall.
Allegheny County Controller and former Pittsburgh City Councilman Corey O’Connor is also running for mayor against Gainey in the Democratic primary on May 20.
“There is no vision coming off of Grant Street anymore,” said O’Connor. When he made his announcement official last month. “When I look around, I see a mayor and an administration managing decline instead of trying to grow Pittsburgh.”
