More than 70 Rite Aid pharmacies across the Pittsburgh area have shuttered.
Now, some people are trying to re-purpose them.
In Westmoreland County, Greensburg Planning Director Alec Italiano is trying to do just that.
On the Big K Morning Show, Italiano said both of the Rite Aid locations, one on North Main Street and the other on East Pittsburgh Street, have good development potential.
“There’s definitely interest on them,” said Italiano. “They’re in great locations for Greensburg, right on major arteries for us, have ample parking, both of them had drive-thru’.”
Italiano said he received an email inquiry about one of the properties this morning and hopes to get more at the development conference in downtown Greensburg on October 8.
Italiano adds that most of the Rite-Aid locations are privately-owned so municipalities “can influence through zoning and try to work with people and make connections” but they can’t directly bring in the new business.
Some properties were owned by Rite Aid, others have private property owners.
