The Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh is seeking volunteers to assist with its free dental, vision and hearing clinic taking place later this year.
Keith Young, Board Member of Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh tells KDKA Radio last year’s clinic provided more than $2.3 million in free services to 1,600 individuals in need.
Young says things like dental care are critical to one’s health.
“This type of healthcare, especially dental, if you don’t have good dental hygiene it can have a serious impact on your overall health, infections, heart disease,” said Young. “So, people that don’t have that dental care can put themselves at risk of having serious problems or even death.”
Dentists, clinicians, opticians, ophthalmologists, nurses, imaging technicians and more are just some of the volunteers needed for the event that provides dental exams, fillings, extractions, eye exams, glassing, hearing screenings and hearing aids for free.
This year’s clinic takes place October 24-25, at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh.
“Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh brings together individuals willing to serve others who are less fortunate. It represents the very soul of the city by demonstrating the compassionate and caring nature of the people here,” said Young, Board Member of Mission of Mercy Pittsburgh. “It is absolutely amazing for our volunteers to be able to relieve their patients’ pain or allow them to hear better or get eyeglasses to see more clearly. It is a very special feeling for volunteers when they assist someone who needs help in order to positively impact their health.”
