Wait times for the emergency room at UPMC Children's Hospital exceeded 10 hours this morning as respiratory illnesses in kids spike.
As of 2:00 p.m., wait times were up to six hours.

UPMC is far from alone, it's an issue plaguing Children’s hospitals across the country.
Wednesday's wait times though a concerning reminder about the increase in RSV and flu in kids.
Raymond Pitetti, ER Director at Children's says patients are actually seen right away, but from there wait times for treatment vary.
“During their wait, and unfortunately there are long waits sometimes, what we’ll do, we will reassess the patients in the waiting room to make sure that there hasn’t been a change in their status and that they’re still okay to wait, because what we don’t want, is for somebody that is really sick to have to wait,” said Pitetti.
He suggests parents also consider taking kids to their pediatrician or an urgent care in a non-emergency situation
