Weather delays bridge implosion in North Braddock

The implosion of Dooker’s Hollow Bridge in North Braddock, already delayed once, has been delayed yet again.

Winter weather has pushed back the implosion scheduled for Friday morning to the afternoon of Saturday, February 13 at 2pm.

In an email to KDKA Radio, Allegheny County Department of Public works explained, "Placement of the explosives is highly technical work done using a large crane. The off-and-on snow and at times windy conditions this week caused the work to take longer than originally anticipated. Safety is our top priority, so Public Works is giving Allison Park Contractors, Inc. and Demtech, LLC the time they need to ensure the bridge is imploded without any issues."

The original implosion was scheduled for Thursday and was rescheduled for Friday.

The Pittsburgh area is in the midst of a winter storm expected to last into the weekend.

The bridge implosion is part of a nearly $10 million bridge replacement that started back in October.
