Allegheny County District Attorney Steven Zappala is calling for new oversight of the County's Retirement Board.
And that includes creating a new board that is not comprised mostly of political figures or their appointees.
Zappala issued a three paged statement today on the County’s looming $1.4 billion unfunded pension liability.
Also, he wants to see a new revenue stream, noting the 11 percent contributions currently paid by County employees is among the highest in the country and can't realistically be raised.
Zappala says County Executive Sara Innamorato ignored his offer two years ago to work together to fix the system, which he now says may require integrating it into ACT 205, which is designed to ensure local government pensions are stable.
