ST. LOUIS, MO (KMOX) - A new report from non-profit Common Sense Media rated streaming apps based on how they gather and share data.
While some collect very little, the group says others are gathering reams of behavioral data and create personalized profiles of users. "This data includes what shows or movies users watch, what devices are used to watch content, when users watch, what location users watch from, how of‐ ten they watch, when they binge watch, and what recommended shows they choose to watch," Common Sense Media says in it's Privacy of Streaming Apps and Devices report.
Apple TV plus scored the highest and was the only service to get a passing score based on Common Sense Media's privacy standards. Apple says they don't sell data, don't use targeted ads and don't track users on other apps.
Common Sense Media issued warnings for other streaming services including Disney plus and Paramount Plus, because they do sell user data, use targeted ads, and track users across apps and the internet. Netflix was given the worst rating.
