“We are greatly relieved to share that law enforcement officers in Colorado have taken into custody the individual who made threats against some members of our UCLA community yesterday,” Suzanne L. Seplow, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Development and Health, and Mick Deluca, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Life wrote.

According to UCLA students, Matthew Harris, a one-time guest lecturer and post-doctoral researcher with the school’s philosophy department, sent an email to students and faculty threatening violence, and containing videos referencing mass shootings in Las Vegas in 2017 and at Columbine High School in 199.

It has not been confirmed whether the suspect in custody in Colorado is Harris.

Threats allegedly made by Harris forced the school to close all in-person classes on Tuesday.

Students who had Harris as a professor had previously reported him for erratic and inappropriate behavior. He was placed on leave last year after allegedly sending a student an email containing pornographic material.

"I've been scared about this professor, this guy, for about a year since my girlfriend told me about the stories - how he treated their class, but also the threats he made after he got put on leave," student Nathan Robbins told ABC 7.
