Billionaire Warren Buffett will auction off a private meal, touted as the world's most expensive lunch, one last time this spring in an effort to raise money for a California homeless charity.

The Berkshire Hathaway CEO hosted the lunch auction once a year for two decades before the COVID-19 pandemic began. The purpose of the lunch was to raise money for the Glide Foundation, a charity that helps the homeless in San Francisco.

The lunch with Buffett was put on hold for the past two years, but the Glide Foundation announced that it was making a return on Monday.

Glide's CEO, Karen Hanrahan, shared that the billionaire's "friendship and generosity over the past 22 years have been invaluable" to his charity.

Buffett, 91, has raised approximately $34.5 million for the charity through his efforts with the lunch. Since 2008 the winning bid hasn’t dipped below $1 million.

Those who have won and dined with Buffett have often been investors who look up to the billionaire who has made a name for himself through his investments.

The last time the auction was held, the top bidder, a cryptocurrency pioneer, paid $4,567,888 for the chance to eat lunch with Buffet and all of it goes to help Glide.

Glide works to provide meals, health care, job training, rehabilitation, and housing support to those in need. Buffet began working with the company after his first wife, Susie, volunteered there and introduced it to him.

He has said that he has continued to support the charity, even after Susie died in 2004, because of the help they offer those in need.

This will be the last year that the auction is held, and Buffett has not said why he decided to end it after this year, the Associated Press reported.

For those looking to spend some money, the weeklong auction held on eBay will start on June 12 with the opening bid of $25,000 and wrap up on June 17.

The highest bidder will get to bring as many as seven people to eat at the Smith & Wollensky steakhouse in New York City with Buffett.
