PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) In anticipation of the upcoming winter storm, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is advising drivers to limit travel starting Thursday Dec. 24.
PennDOT is advising the for the duration of the storm that motorists stay off the roads and watch out for restrictions being set on certain roadways.
Effective 3:00 p.m. Thursday, level one vehicle restrictions on the following roadways:
- The entire length of Interstate 90
- Interstate 79 from I80 to I90
Effective 7:00 p.m. Thursday, level one restrictions will be implemented on Interstate 376 westbound from I279 (Fort Pitt Tunnel) to I79.
Level one restrictions, the following vehicles are not permitted on affected roadways:
- Tractors without trailers
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded enclosed trailers, open trailers or tank trailers
- Tractors towing unloaded or lightly loaded tandem trailers
- Enclosed cargo delivery trucks that meet the definition of a CMV
- Passenger vehicles (cars, SUV's, pickup trucks, etc.) towing trailers
- Recreational vehicles/motorhomes
- School buses, commercial buses and motor coaches
- motorcycles.
Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, level three restrictions will be implemented for the entire length of I90.
Level three restrictions include all mandates from level one, plus no commercial vehicles are permitted EXCEPT loaded single trailers with chains or approved Alternate Traction Devices.
